2011 Rankings, Week 2

The HackPoll is back!  (albeit with an abbreviated post this week).  At this stage in the season, my rankings are only 3.1% reliable, so don't read too much into the fact that Baylor is #1 and Syracuse and FIU are in the top-10 -- that is only indicative of the fact that, so far, those schools are undefeated and have played the strongest schedules to date.  The rankings will get better in the coming weeks until they reach maximum reliability by about the end of October or so.

That having been said, a couple of amusing observations about this week's ratings:  Not surprisingly, the bottom two teams are Oregon St and Duke, the only two teams in the country who have lost to FCS (formerly D-1AA) opponents so far this year.  Because OSU's and Duke's ratings are so low, it had a large effect on the strengths-of-schedule of their other FBS opponents, namely Wisconsin and Stanford.  Consequently, Wisconsin and Stanford currently have the lowest strength-of-schedule ratings in the country, and that is why Wisconsin is currently ranked #59 and Stanford is currently ranked #79, even though both are expected to challenge for their respective conference titles this year.

Like I said, 3.1% reliability (at this point...)  With that caveat, however, here are the rankings as they currently stand:
